Next week, Suzanne Somers — hot-panted sitcom star turned “scientist” — will release her 22nd book: Bombshell, Explosive Medical Secrets That Will Redefine Aging. The Three’s Company and Step by Step star began her second career as a health-advice-touting licensing juggernaut 21 years ago with her endorsement of the Thighmaster; since then, she has been an unstoppable (and real doctors have tried!) hawker of diet books, jewelry, fashion, nutritional supplements, cancer cures, and now a guide to reversing the aging process through the simple fix of taking massive doses of synthetic hormones and ingesting 60 vitamins a day. How did Somers go from enacting bawdy mix-ups at the Regal Beagle to an author with nearly 10 million books in print? As this timeline will tell you, she did it through a shrewd mix of home shopping, vaginal injections, and pseudo-scientific claims that make real doctors feel faint. The success of Somers’s toning products … [Read more...] about From Thighmasters to Nanobots: A Timeline of Suzanne Somers, Inc.

July 17, 2020 - 17:23 BST Debbie Frank Debbie Frank, astrologer to the stars including Princess Diana, has set the record straight on Nasa's announcement that has had people panicking they've changed star signs Why it has taken NASA so long to 'discover' a 13th sign is beyond comprehension to astrologers. Ancient Babylonians, who devised our system of astrology, recorded and knew that the constellation Ophiuchus existed 2,500 years ago.MORE: Read your weekly horoscope here Besides this, NASA's blog is not even recent news having first been posted in 2016 and has just re-surfaced, triggering a big hoo-ha where many people have been led to believe that their original star sign has fallen into a black hole and they have to adjust to a new one. Debbie says our star signs have not changed The constellation of Ophiuchus has been inserted between Scorpio and Sagittarius and all the signs have supposedly shifted, so that, for instance, Cancer is now … [Read more...] about Astrologer confirms your star sign HASN’T changed following Nasa’s discovery – you are still your zodiac
Retta has made herself comfortable. She’s created a pillow throne on the long, burgundy settee at the bar of the Four Seasons hotel; a couple of red, plush cushions rearranged as armrests, another two behind her. She came down from her room in a gray sweater and fuzzy purple slippers she got from the set of her latest TV show, Good Girls. “I am in a space of trying to Zen out,” she says, projecting a cool, pay-no-mind calm as though now, at the age of 48, she’s fully internalized the serenity prayer to accept the things she cannot change, the courage to change the things she can, and the wisdom to know the difference. It’s a philosophy she’s carried throughout her career, which she began as a stand-up comic and led her to a starring role on the hour-long NBC dramedy Good Girls. “I’ve always thought that I would have to prove myself with some really small role before I’d get on the level where there’s a stack of scripts that I … [Read more...] about Retta Has a Story to Tell
Photo: Cafe Today marks the start of President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, a historic proceeding of TBD significance that will serve at least two functions as it plays out. The first is an assessment as to whether the country’s institutions will hold the former president accountable for fueling the insurrection at the Capitol last month with his rhetoric, and the second is to function as a kind of litmus test sussing out the shape of the American public’s relationship with politics writ large as we drift deeper into the Biden presidency. Given the incentives of Senate Republicans, the former outcome feels all but predetermined. The latter, though, seems much less clear. It’s been posited numerous times over the last few years that the Trump presidency compelled more Americans towards greater engagement with political news — if not actual political participation — than ever before. But in the wake of Biden’s … [Read more...] about Preet Bharara Navigates the Post-Trump Podcast Boom
Photo: Courtesy of Amazon Studios The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released its shortlists for nine categories in the upcoming 93rd Annual Academy Awards. There are many great, deserving, and expected titles on the lists: Boys State and Dick Johnson Is Dead for Documentary Feature, Another Round and La Llorona in International Feature Film, Tenet in Visual Effects. There are also some surprises: Mank in Visual Effects (don’t you remember the part where the not-exactly-whizz-bang Mank Mank finds all the infinity stones and animorphs into Thanos?) and Hillbilly Elegy for the Makeup and Hairstyling that went into creating the living dybbuk that is Mamaw. Most intriguing though is the Original Song category, in which fifteen songs have advanced to the shortlist. These include “Husavik” from Eurovision Song Contest, and the “Wuhan Flu” song that Sacha Baron Cohen sings in disguise at a far-right rally in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. … [Read more...] about ’s ‘Wuhan Flu’ Song Made the Oscars Shortlist
