Rami Malek has signed on to play Hoffman’s role in a remake of Papillon, the 1973 movie about a prison break, which also starred Steve McQueen. Charlie Hunnam is playing McQueen’s character, a man who’s unjustly convicted for murder and sent to an island prison, while Malek will play a “quirky counterfeiter” who helps get him out. Michael Noer is set to direct, while Aaron Guzikowski is writing the script for the contemporary retelling. We can only hope that Malek tries on Hoffman’s glasses. FX Throws Open the Latch for Lee Daniels’

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lee Daniels is the latest creator to throw his hat (the hat is also a grappling hook and a concussion mine) into the ring with a TV adaptation of The Spook Who Sat by the Door, the pilot of which has just been ordered by FX. Based on author Sam Greenlee’s 1969 novel of the same name, The Spook follows the adventures of Dan Freeman, the fictional first Black CIA officer. In the novel, after being hired as the organization’s token Black employee, Freeman takes his intelligence training back to his hometown of Chicago, readies guerrilla fighters, and masterminds a revolution. November 21, 2017 - 19:27 GMT Hanna Fillingham The Likely Lads actor Rodney Bewes – who played Bob Ferris in the sitcom - died on Tuesday morning at the age of 79, it was announced in a statement Rodney Bewes has died aged 79. The actor – who was best known for his role as Bob Ferris in the hit sitcom The Likely Lads – passed away on Tuesday morning. His agent released a statement on Twitter, saying: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that our dear client, the much-loved actor Rodney Bewes, passed away this morning. Rodney was a true one off. We will miss his charm and ready wit." Fans of the much-loved star were quick to comment on the news, with one writing: "Sad lost and sadly missed.
