When Spoon’s most recent album, Hot Thoughts, was released earlier this year, a common critical talking point was that this was their “dance record.” Spoon had become known for its economy and ability to make two or three instruments sound like all you could ever want on a track, but the Austin-born band — founded by front man Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno — had been slowly adding layers to their sound over their two most recent records.
