Before Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans paraded around the big screen with the superhero Avengers, this ’60s series of the same name was a master class in sexy espionage — a suave secret agent travels the world to catch the most dangerous murderers and assassins, always with a badass woman by his side. Like Doctor Who, there are many rotations and eras in the show, and you’ll find yourself choosing your favorite sidekick-and-spy combination real quick. (The answer, of course, is Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg.) … [Read more...] about The Best British Spy Shows to Stream Right Now

Upon the news of her death, writers shared their own stories of meeting Rigg. “Circa the GoT s3 premiere, I found myself in an elevator w/Dame Diana Rigg, wrapped from head-to-toe in wool to stave off a bad cold,” Rolling Stone TV critic Alan Sepinwall tweeted. “‘I’m looking for the chemist,’ she told me. ‘I believe his name is … Duane?’” (We’ll guess she meant a Duane Reade pharmacy.) Vulture’s Mark Harris shared his own story on Twitter. “2 years ago I sat next to Diana Rigg at a Tonys party. She was in My Fair Lady–at 80,” he wrote. “She told me it was a great role because she could get tons of reading done btw scenes. Then she gave me her phone and said, ‘Find Uber on this and get me the hell out of here.’” … [Read more...] about 5 Incredible Diana Rigg Stories
Friday Night Lights (5 seasons, 2006–2011)Zach Gilford (Matt Saracen), Adrianne Palicki (Tyra Collette), Scott Porter (Jason Street), Minka Kelly (Lyla Garrity), Gaius Charles (Smash Williams)Season 3, episode 13, “Tomorrow Blues” (with the exception of Charles, who left in episode four, “Hello, Goodbye”; and Porter, who left in episode 7, “New York, New York”)They all graduated — sort of, this takes some explaining. Some characters returned to Dillon, Texas, occasionally, but, as happens in life, most everyone ended going in different directions. In order of increasing heartbreak:After sustaining an injury in playoffs with the … [Read more...] about What Happens When Actors Leave High-School-TV Shows?

In order to protect her voice, Lauren Ambrose is ducking out of the Sunday matinee performances of My Fair Lady. She has young kids and is playing Eliza Doolittle, a role that nearly destroyed Julie Andrews, so this seems fairly reasonable, though certainly a disappointment to anyone who bought tickets to see her Tony-nominated performance. It is also a major disappointment to Dame Diana Rigg, who plays Henry Higgins’s mother, and who decided to air her grievances about it all. In an email — and we shudder at the thought of anyone getting an email from Diana Rigg — obtained by the Post, Rigg wrote, “I learnt, courtesy of a newspaper, that our leading lady will not be appearing in future Sunday matinees. It is time managements put their audiences first and insist on the old adage, slightly adapted by me, ‘The show must go on — with ALL principals.’” (Impeccable em-dash use from the dame.) … [Read more...] about Diana Rigg Concerned Lauren Ambrose Is Not Willing to Destroy Her Voice for
