Photo: Bravo Stewardess Elizabeth Frankini’s firing from Below Deck went from a possibility to an inevitability after she and deckhand James Hough slept in a guest cabin without permission on January 26’s episode. Due to staffing issues at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, though, chief stew Francesca Rubi couldn’t fire Frankini until after the next charter, on February 15’s episode — which would end up being the finale , after the final two groups of guests canceled due to concerns about pandemic safety. So there was still much to be hashed out regarding Frankini’s firing on the special February 22 episode of Watch What Happens Live that doubled as the Below Deck season-eight reunion. When asked about her perceived negativity toward Frankini, chief stew Rubi claimed her comments were “not mean, they’re just directional.” Frankini then went on to claim Rubi and stewardess Ashling Lorger “were bullies in the end.” “I think that a lot of things could’ve been said … [Read more...] about Reunion: Elizabeth Calls Francesca a Bully Over Firing
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and The Crown are both Globes front-runners, but under very different circumstances. Photo-Illustration: Vulture, Netflix and Amazon Studios Let’s be honest: Every year is kind of a weird year for the Golden Globes. Relative to other awards shows, the Globes are boozier, more random, more GIF-able , and proud of it. But this year is extra- extra weird. The ceremony, to be broadcast Sunday night on NBC , is being held in a pandemic, which means Tina Fey will be co-hosting from New York, Amy Poehler will be co-hosting from Los Angeles, and presenters will appear in person but nominees won’t. There will not be a red carpet, but E! and NBC will still host pre-shows featuring celebrity interviews. And on top of that weirdness, just a few days before the Golden Globes, an L.A. Times story called out the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for all kinds of shadiness, giving the event even more of a “Why does this even matter?” vibe than usual. … [Read more...] about Who Should (and Will) Win at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards?
John Mayer. Photo: Charles Sykes/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images Dear John, maybe stick to Instagram ? Taylor Swift’s feisty fanbase has flooded John Mayer’s comments on his first two TikToks with the lyrics to a 2010 ballad from her album Speak Now , which they believe is about their rumored relationship. The 43-year-old posted his first TikTok yesterday — a video where he doesn’t know how to flip the camera — and, unfortunately for him, it seems to have ended up on the “For You” page of Swifites worldwide. “You’re not safe here, John,” the top comment currently reads. A few hours later, he posted another video of himself nodding along to silence with the caption “POV: You’re berating me, and I’m hearing you out.” The Swifties didn’t wake up for amicable understanding, though. “Hello mr old man victim complex,” one comment with over 11K likes reads. Most of the comments are different lyrics from “Dear John,” like “Don’t you think 19’s too young to be … [Read more...] about Taylor Swift Fans Are Not Here for John Mayer’s TikTok Presence
GLOW Up, Up, Up Season 3 Episode 1 Editor’s Rating 3 stars * * * « Previous Next » Photo: Netflix GLOW ’s second season left off with the cast, and their director, getting on a bus to their uncertain future in Las Vegas; we rejoin them in their new home, the (fictional) Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino, on the morning of January 28, 1986, as they prepare for their very first show! Debbie and Ruth have been booked on a local morning show to plug G.L.O.W. while in character and join the host in watching the live launch of a new space shuttle! Ruth gets so wrapped up in her roast — “Maybe I challenge her crew to chess game,” etc. — that she’s not looking at the monitor when the shuttle explodes, thus accidentally pushing the limits of heel trash talk. Probably half legitimately horrified at herself and half wallowing in self-recrimination so that she can recall this feeling in future sense-memory work, Ruth is not in the best mood to learn … [Read more...] about Season-Premiere Recap: Your Fortune Awaits
