Victoria has recorded 1,069 new COVID-19 infections and two deaths as investigations continue into possible Omicron cases of the virus. There have been 597 deaths recorded in the current outbreak. The two people who died yesterday were aged in their 70s and 80s. There are 310 people in hospital with the COVID-19 in Victoria, of whom 74 are in intensive care and 37 are on a ventilator. The health department said a further 41 people were in ICU but their infections were no longer considered active. Hospitalisation rates have remained stable in recent weeks , keeping pressure on the state’s health system. The vast majority of those receiving intensive care are unvaccinated.
