WALFORD pensioner Ted Murray has been left stunned after finding notes from his dead wife Joyce around the Square. But who is he, who plays him and how did Joyce die? Here’s all you need to know… Who is Ted Murray? Ted Murray is a character in EastEnders. He arrived on the Square in May 2017 with his wife Joyce. He is played by actor Christopher Timothy. Ted and Joyce, played by Maggie Steed, were re-homed on Albert Square from Walford Towers. On moving to their new home, Joyce was angry with her husband for bringing along a mysterious box, which was later revealed to contain a gun. Later, Ted panics when Johnny Carter calls at their house after a gas explosion rocks the Square. Ted accidentally shoots Johnny, when he has a flashback suffering from PTSD after his time in the army. Luckily, Johnny pulled through and Ted was given a suspended sentence and community service. Ted struck up a friendship with teenage neighbour Bernadette Taylor as he taught her how to play chess.
