According to a press release shared late Saturday night, the new agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will be submitted for approval at a June 6 board meeting. The terms touch on some of the issues that are popular in Writers Guild of America picket signs — for example, the DGA negotiated for an increase in streaming residuals and wages, as well as an assurance that generative AI cannot replace the duties of a DGA member. However, the WGA has already stated that its strike — which has now stretched on for more than a month — will not end in the event of a DGA deal. In a June 1 letter to members obtained by IndieWire , the WGA negotiating committee claimed that the AMPTP wants to repeat the … [Read more...] about The Directors Guild of America Has Reached a Tentative Deal with AMPTP
’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan Says Devi Is Still a ‘Hot Mess’
Taylor Swift, call her. Photo: Emma McIntyre/WireImage No matter how much Devi Vishwakumar grew up during the four seasons of Never Have I Ever , she’s always going to be a lovable hot mess. Throughout the series, one of her high-school goals was to lose her virginity — whether it be to Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet) or Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison). When asked if Devi’s completion of one of the things on her high-school checklist had changed how she played the role, series star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (who pays Devi) said that, despite hitting the milestone, “Devi’s insecurities were still there … Our anger is still there. All of that is pretty much the same. The only thing that really shifted, that was directly related to her virginity, was she has a very rocky road in communication with Ben. She’s still a hot mess — that doesn’t change anything.” When asked if she saw Devi as the story’s antihero, Ramakrishnan referenced music’s self-proclaimed antihero . “Kind of. Evilgiane Wasn’t Expecting That Kendrick and Baby Keem Collab Either
Photo: Tyler Jones The producer Evilgiane descends from the relatively new tradition of sample drill , New York’s first “organic” (by way of the U.K. via Chicago) sonic contribution to rap in at least a generation. Giane began as the RZA of the vaunted LES multi-hyphenate collective Surf Gang , who made their bones with Punk Goes Drill , a project from the rapper Polo Perks . The album was self-conscious and gimmicky, designed to grab critics who were late to drill and in need of a big, obvious concept they could wrap their heads around. But Giane had grander designs, too. His shit was more complicated, indie-rock straddling, and Xanned out than other producers — beats you could hear Pasto Flacco spitting over but also imagine James Blake moaning on. More than any other drill producer I’ve encountered, Evilgiane seemed to understand right away that the genre isn’t about any one borough or an Eric Adams talking point but simply a drum pattern, open to infinite … [Read more...] about Evilgiane Wasn’t Expecting That Kendrick and Baby Keem Collab Either
Celebrities Are Standing With the WGA
Mandy Patinkin. Photo: Erik McGregor/LightRocket via Getty Images Hollywood royalty is on the side of labor. The Writers Guild of America called for a strike on May 2 after negotiations for fair pay and streaming-era regulations broke down, leaving late-night and variety television immediately impacted, the future of your favorite show an open question, reality and animated TV the only sure things … and no Pete Davidson–hosted SNL episode . Celebrities voiced their support for the strike in the days and weeks leading up to the anticipated walkout, but the first Monday in May proved to be the most fruitful moment to get them on the record about the then-potential seismic event. “Everything changed with streaming, and everyone needs to be compensated for their work,” Amanda Seyfried told Variety on the Met Gala red carpet. “It’s fucking easy. I don’t get it.” Jimmy Fallon, who also attended the fashion extravaganza, said he “wouldn’t have a show if it wasn’t for my … [Read more...] about Celebrities Are Standing With the WGA
